Let’s get to know Arpita, a little bit better!
Name: Arpita Mishra
Title: Human Resource Manager
Passionate, dynamic and a quick learner, Arpita goes above and beyond to make sure the team and management are aligned and in sync. She quickly adapted to the working and culture at OGenie, so much so that she is the one now who drives the culture and keeps the fun and connection alive. It is the responsibility of an HR to keep the employees connected, but for Arpita, it is how she functions- taking everyone together.
Let’s talk Work
Describe a typical day for you do at OGenie:
My day is chock-a-block with profiling, interviews, discussions with the management and the team leads. Planning for birthdays, events, connecting with Genieuses- informing, resolving issues, the usual. I enjoy my work and am truly thankful for the support I have received from one and all.
What changes do you see in hiring since you first joined?
A couple of changes. The format has been the same, just we have simplified the process. We are conducting campus drives, onboarding interns, adding more talent to the team.
What do you enjoy the most about working for OGenie?
What I enjoy the most about OGenie are the challenges. It gives me a chance to learn and grow. Also, I enjoy that I can be a people’s person here, managing people is the biggest challenge which can be easier being empathetic.
What challenges have you dealt with that you are most proud of?
It is a challenge when you are bringing changes within the organisation.
Just after 3 months of my tenure with OGenie, I got the excellent opportunity to play the role of HR Generalist. I received Employee of the Month within a few months- and for me, it is not just a title, it relates to how I work, present myself and the team.
The challenges are obviously extensive, managing the entire team, tasks, targets & that too with a big smile on the face.
Also, managing remote working while continuing employee engagement remotely was also a challenge & I am pretty happy that I dealt with it beautifully.
Let’s talk Human Resource
What’s tougher, hiring or firing?
Haha! Technically hiring but personally firing.
There comes a point when you need to let an employee go for the good of the company.
It is one of the worst feelings.
Any professional knows you build your team with respect and focus on everyone's well-being, and so when you have to let someone go, there is a sense that you failed your duty in some way. Though in my career I have less experience of firing employees because I always try to maintain a low attrition rate.
Your work demands to be connected with everyone. How do you get along with different types of people?
I work well with anyone who delivers what they promise. For me, my work is not only about administering benefits or settling disputes, it is about driving results with effective people. I have had certain HR issues, but nothing personally so far.
What according to you keep employees happy and productive? How is it working for OGenie?
There are a few things- salary on time, a growth environment, open discussions, easy policies, lively atmosphere- I’d say it’s working really well for OGenie because, besides all these, our management is a set of cool people who keep the motivation high and pressure low
Let’s get Personal
How would you describe yourself?
A deadly combination- emotional & fearless. Also, loving as I am really connected to my family & friends.
How did you get into HR?
It was because of a few attributes that I have as a person- interpersonal skills, understanding people, taking care of relations and building new relations with positive hope.
What do you enjoy most?
I enjoy being myself, real, without any inhibitions and when I am being ME, I dance A perfect way to enjoy life.
